A Perspective On Evil

Evil hit close to home this past week with the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Once again we are forced to rehearse in our minds how to make sense of the senseless. I’m reminded of what the late Brennan Manning, American author and priest said:

“Suffering, failure, loneliness, sorrow, discouragement, and death will be part of your journey, but the Kingdom of God will conquer all these horrors. No evil can resist grace forever.”

In that one response is the essence of the context of evil. Evil as opposed to what? Evil as opposed to good. The question of evil begs the question of good. And there can only be comfort in good if there exists an eternal God who has made a way past the earthly problem of evil. Without the context of eternity the problem of evil is totally unsolvable.
