City of God

Malcolm Muggeridge said in an address in 1985 that if you turn your imagination to Carthage in 410AD, you’ll hear Augustine receiving the news that Rome has been sacked, and the barbarians have taken over.  Augustine’s first thought is to reassure his flock with these words: “If this catastrophe is indeed true it must be God’s will.  Men build cities and men destroy cities, but the City of God they didn’t build and cannot destroy.  The Heavenly City outshines Rome beyond comparison.

Take courage!
