No coincidence

Proverbs 16:33: The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.

It is not wise to think things can easily be described as coincidence or superstition. In the same week that we discussed the casting of lots in our Acts Alive study on Sunday morning, Alistair Begg on his radio broadcast today covers the casting of lots in the story of Jonah. In Acts, we see the last mention of the casting of lots in the Bible as apostles determine a replacement for Judas.

It is a nice  when we our studies coincide, but can we really think of it as a coincidence? The casting of lots may seem like a superstitious act, but the providence of God cannot be questioned. Begg points out the most helpful Proverb from Solomon – “The lot is cast… but its every decision is from the Lord” (Proverbs 16:33).
